Want to Volunteer?
Anyone can volunteer with Habitat, either by participating in construction or by joining a committee devoted to family selection and support, fundraising, recruiting volunteers, finding and selecting the next build sites or rehabs, developing PR materials and working with the local media, and organizing our volunteers for a construction day. There are many different opportunities to help.
No skills are needed, just enthusiasm, a willingness to work together, and a commitment to helping to our local families in need of affordable, decent housing.

Position: Volunteer working on Church Relations
Length of Commitment: Minimum of 1 year
# of Positions: 3
Position Description:
Volunteers responsible for church relations will establish a Church Relations Committee (with help and guidance from existing TC HFH members). Meetings should be held on a monthly basis. Once the committee is in effect the duties will be to:
* Establish regular ties/communications with local religious institutions and their networks.
* Encourage religious institutions to actively collaborate with us and with each other on supporting TC HFH. This could include activities like fund raising, Habitat family recruiting and support, organizing volunteers.
Skills and Personal Characteristics:
* Good communicator.
* Should be active in local religious community.
* Belief in team approach to work environment and able to commit to the mission of Habitat.

Position: Volunteers organizing fund raising events
Time Commitment: 5 hours per week
Length of commitment: Minimum of 1 year
# of positions: 2-3
Position Description:
The volunteers responsible for organizing fund raising events will be considered active members of the TC HFH Development Committee; this includes one meeting a month.
Tasks specific to the position include:
* Planning and organize fundraising events or campaigns (roughly 6 minor and 2 major events a year).
* Being pro-active in recruiting and collaborating with other organizations for joint fund raising activities with TC HFH.
Skills and Personal Characteristics:
* Fundraising experience desirable but not required.
* Good communicator.
* Responsible for meeting deadlines.
* Belief in team approach to work environment and able to commit to the mission of Habitat.
Meaningfulness of position:
* Important for raising funds for Habitat building and raising awareness of TC HFH.

Position: Volunteer focused on large donor fund raising
Time Commitment: 4-5 hours per week
Length of commitment: 1-year minimum
# of Positions: 1-2
Position Description:
The volunteers responsible for fund raising from large donors will be considered active members of the TC HFH Development Committee; this includes one meeting a month.
Tasks specific to the position include:
* Cultivating and increasing donations from potentially large individual donors.
* Being pro-active in engaging TC HFH members to help.
* Planning fundraising events/activities with others that would encourage significant donations.
Skills and Personal Characteristics:
* Fundraising experience.
* Long time resident in the local community is desirable.
* Good people person.
* Belief in team approach to work environment and able to commit to the mission of Habitat.
Meaningfulness of position:
* Important for raising funds for Habitat building and raising awareness of TC HFH in communities

Position: Volunteer working on PR/Media relations
Time Commitment: 4 hours per week
Length of commitment: Minimum of 1 year
# of Positions: 1
Position Description:
The volunteer responsible for PR/Media Relations will be considered an active member of the TC HFH Development Committee; this includes one meeting a month.
Tasks specific to the position include:
* Developing and maintaining contact with local newspaper, radio, television, and other media sources.
* Drafting/editing press releases and news articles to feed to local media.
* Working with other TC HFH members to develop drafts/information packets that could become news articles.
Skills and Personal Characteristics:
* Writing and editing experience
* Good communicator
* Responsible for meeting deadlines
Meaningfulness of position:
* Important in raising awareness of TC HFH throughout Tompkins and Cortland counties.

Position: Volunteer Construction Supervisors for Tompkins County OR Cortland County
Time Commitment: 10 – 15 hours a month
Length of commitment: Minimum of 1 year
# of positions: 3-5 in each county
Position Description:
The volunteers will once a month or so, supervise unskilled or moderately skilled volunteers during our build days – usually Saturday mornings and Wednesday nights. We will train the supervisors on safety and other requirements of a Habitat build. Will be a member of the Construction Committee. Will work with the volunteer coordinator and the rest of the Construction Committee.
Volunteer construction supervisors need to have good construction skills, know local building specifications, and have good communications skills to work well with unskilled or semi skilled volunteers. Experience with building energy efficient housing is desirable.

Important for building sound houses efficiently for Habitat families
